Spring appears earliest in Wrocław – this is the advantage of the warmest city in Poland. It is worth going out and looking for its signs on the Oder, in parks and in municipal gardens.
As you could see particularly on Oder boulevards and city centre islands, Wrocław inhabitants have missed contact with nature. As soon as the temperature rose to several Celsius degrees, the Dunikowskiego Boulevard was filled with lovers of walks, families with children and young people who moved from clubs to amphitheatrical stairs on the water. One year after the completed repair of the promenade, we can already see that this place attracts many people, and stairs opposite the Włostowica Boulevard are an excellent place to sit and admire the lazy Oder and the panorama of Ostrów Tumski.
Already during last weekends, streets around the Szczytnicki Park were filled with cars. The biggest municipal park in Wrocław attracts lovers of walks, nature and squirrels from the most distant areas.
The 100-hectare area of the over 100-year-old park is intersected by ul. Mickiewicza. Families with children meet more frequently near the Centennial Hall, because there is more to see in this area: a wooden church, the Centennial Hall, the Pergola, the Iglica and the Japanese Garden (open only from 1st April). In the northern part, closer to ul. Różyckiego, there are more dog walkers and families with children in prams. Spaces, playgrounds for children, long alleys and a small number of cyclists are the advantages of this area. Here you can also find interesting spots, particularly for lovers of the past of Wrocław. At ul. Kopernika you can watch, even from a distance, the villa of Max Berg – the creator of the Centennial Hall project. In the centre of the park, there is an over 100-year-old column of the Prussian king Frederick William II. When you are tired after an intensive walk, you can visit the nearby NelParco pizzeria and have a stretch on the deckchair when the sun comes out.
There are increasingly more attractions for children in municipal parks. In the Szczytnicki Park, there are a few playgrounds. In the Zachodni Park, there is a boulder wall adapted to the needs of youngest children, and the racing track on Partynice is a popular place to walk in southern Wrocław. The Południowy Park in Krzyki attracts also many visitors.
From 1st April, after the winter break, the Botanical Garden of the University of Wrocław will be opened. It is a place with 200 years of history and a crowd of regular frequenters. Many people like it most in spring, when plants only spring into life.
From 1st April, you can also look into the Japanese Garden. It is a magical place – an oriental Arcadia in a European forest, where can contemplate nature in peace. The Staromiejski Garden is open already now. Being adjacent to the Downtown Promenade, it is an excellent shelter from the urban noise.
When you take a walk across the Wrocław Old Town, it is worth seeing city courtyards and cloisters. The Ossolineum cloister is always impressive – it is located in the city centre, but it is an interesting discovery for many visitors. The cloister in the building at the Pl. Nankiera square occupied by the Faculty of Philologies is less spectacular, but, nevertheless, worth seeing. We also recommend a visit to the internal garden in the former monastery building occupied by the Museum of Architecture at ul. Bernardyńska, which has an irrestible charm.
